Dear all,

Currently I have two Servo-to-go cards for my EMC, but I found that
there are some problem with the encoders(one with drifting reading
and one with spikes in reading). I am planning to buy another similar
motion control card supported by EMC.

1) Vital Systems Motenc-Lite Servo PCI 4-Axis Card and I/O Boards
2) Mesa Electronics 5i20 Anything I/O PCI, and Servo & Stepper Daughter Boards
3) Axiom Measurement & Control AX5241H 48 Channel Digital I/O Board
4) Siemens EVOREG Motion Control Board
5) Pico systems

Based on your experiences, which ones are of high quality as well as
well-supported?

Thanks ahead for your valuable suggestions.

Best regards
Xuecheng

Hi,

Disclaimer: Not to start flame wars here...these are just my
experiences.

I can only comment on the cards I've had experience with; STG I,
Vital Systems (8 channel), and Pico Systems ( ppmc).

The STG just works; easy to hook up as long as one has one of the
breakout boards. See STG site for a link. Tom Powderly has found an
alternate breakout board for less money.

Hi

I build my system based on MESA 5i20 + 7i36 analog card and 7i37 I/O card

You also need to determine what kind motor you want to use.

Everything must work together or you always be in some type of trouble.

I found that MESA Electronics and motors from ServoDynamics AC servomotors working good.

Also what is extremely important MESA electronics manufactured

special breaker board, that you maust to have, to connect 7i36 analog card to motor drive of ServoDynamic.

There are both OEM what is very very important and you always can get hold someone by e-mailing or call in.

That is my experience.

Let me know if any questions

Aram K.

Hello,

skip the Siemens EVOREG Motion Control Board. You can't get them anymore
and the documentation didn't say me how to get index pulses. The only
way to get them is to wire them to one of the digital IOs.

Yes, we've known about the "spikes" since about 2000. The problem occurs
when the encoder count rolls over from -1 to zero or zero to -1.

5) Pico systems
I can tell you that my boards do NOT have this problem. Since I experienced
this myself with a Servo-to-Go card, I made sure it did not happen on mine.
